Greece is probably the prettiest destinations in Europe and selecting just a few photos of Greece for a recent photo contest was no easy task, though the Acropolis will not ignored. Our Greek vacation included Athens, Mykonos, Paros and Santorini and the photo that really won second invest the contest was a photo of a gingerbread.
The magical island of Santorini is appropriate in the middle of the gorgeous, blue Aegean Sea. The Greece you've always dreamed of involves life on this island with the white buildings and streets. Most of the hotels on this island are small but luxurious. For a traditional Greek experience, consider residing at small, family owned hotels. Many of these family run hotels have only a few rooms or suites available.
If you are looking for privacy, consider Astarte Suites. This family run hotel has only nine suites. It is operating out of the least populated area of the island. Each suite is unique. Each suite has Jacuzzis, flat-screen televisions, and king-size beds. Breakfast is served in your private balcony.
Take several.5 mile hike from Fira to Oia. Be sure to take water and wear comfortable shoes. The views of the ocean and the volcano are spectacular.
Check the ruins of Ancient Thera. This ancient city includes remains from multiple periods including the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine. Once you reach the ancient city, it is possible to look down and see the black sand beaches. Kamari Beach is probably the most popular beaches on Santorini.
Enjoy a later date at the beach at Red Beach. The beach is named for reddish volcanic sand.
