Greece is one of the prettiest destinations in Europe deciding on only a few photos of Greece for a recent photo contest was no easy task, though the Acropolis will not be ignored. Our Greek vacation included Athens, Mykonos, Paros and Santorini and the photo that truly won second invest the contest would be a photo of the gingerbread.
The magical island of Santorini is right during the gorgeous, blue Aegean Sea. The Greece you've always dreamed of comes to life on this island with the white buildings and streets. Most in the hotels on this island are small but luxurious. For a traditional Greek experience, consider residing at small, family owned hotels. Many of these family run hotels have just a couple of rooms or suites available.
If you are interested in privacy, consider Astarte Suites. This family run hotel just has nine suites. It is located within the smallest amount of populated portion of the island. Each suite is different. Each suite has Jacuzzis, flat-screen televisions, and king-size beds. Breakfast is served in your private balcony.
Take several.5 mile hike from Fira to Oia. Be sure to take water and wear comfortable shoes. The views in the ocean and the volcano are spectacular.
Check the ruins of Ancient Thera. This ancient city includes remains from multiple periods such as the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine. Once you get through to the ancient city, you can look down and see the black sand beaches. Kamari Beach is one of the hottest beaches on Santorini.
Enjoy at a later date at the sea at Red Beach. The beach is called for reddish volcanic sand.
